Since receiving her B.A. in Art from San Jose State University, Mary has had over 30 years of experience in weaving and basketry. She has been represented in numerous galleries in Southern California as well as participated in numerous art shows in Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside Counties.
Mary was featured in a basketry video for a national cable television show(HGTV) and her work was pictured in " The Complete Book of Gourdcraft" by Summit and Wiedess (Lark Books). She teaches at her home and various local and state venues. She has taught for the California Gourd Society State Conference at Asilomar for three years. In the past she has taught at the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum in Palm Springs and the Barona Cultural Museum at Barona. Memberships include the Los Angeles Basket Guild. the Misti Washington Gourd and Basketry Guild, the California Gourd Society, the American Gourd Society, and the National Basket Organization. She has won awards from the California Gourd Society Festval at Welburn Farms since 1998. Her present work combines gourds with basketry of natural materials sometimes gathered while bird-watching - another passion. |
